The unique feature of the EX785 is its ability to enable full range lens shift with a short throw ratio of only 0.8. This feature enabled “AV Line” to realise their ambience vision within the incredibly tight throw distance constraints.

We chose the EX785 because of the short throw capabilities and off axis. There were other short throw projectors but they were on axis and these need to be off axis

Optoma EX785 Projectors from the ProScene Range provide ambiance projection room solution

Challenge:
The client required the upgrade of two substantial meeting rooms to provide cutting-edge 270 degree ambience projection and thereby completely transform the interior experience.
Solution:
In total, thirty EX785 XGA projectors were installed in two rooms. Edge-blending technology produced an image that is over twenty meters wide blended across three sides of the rooms.
Results:
Using over 12 million pixels and the equivalent of 80,000 lumens the resulting images engulf the viewer’s senses and provide an ambience environment only limited by the creative imagination.

The Challenge

Critical to the design brief was the ability to realise the ambience vision within incredibly tight throw distance constraints and the design requirement that off axis projection was needed to avoid shadowing the image.

The Solution

The contractor and AV integrator “AV Line”, with 25 years of experience in the audiovisual market, having designed and installed two multifunctional audio-visual rooms for the client were further contracted to create two ambience projection solutions.

The museum installation experts “Wave” were taken on to provide additional expertise. Michael Deck of Wave had used EX785 in several previous museum installations. The Optoma ProScene projectors were chosen to meet the requirements of flexibility, short throw capability and their ability to project off-axis.

Michael commented. “The unique feature of the EX785 is its ability to enable full range lens shift with a short throw ratio of only 0.8. This feature enabled “AV Line” to realise their ambience vision within the incredibly tight throw distance constraints.

We chose the EX785 because of the short throw capabilities and off axis. There were other short throw projectors but they were on axis and these need to be off axis, that’s why we felt confident regarding the X and Y lens shift that enables us to adjust the position of the image in the multi display screen.”

The Results

Three walls in each of the two rooms had the projectors separated in different groups: six on the right, six on the left and three in the middle.

Blending was required where the images of two projectors are side by side to overlap the image. The blending is accomplished by the brightness and contrast fade from one to another. The levels are tweaked so the brightness is not doubled.

The overlaps are setup and modified, and software calculates and generates the image with a soft edge that is calibrated.
